The Michigan Paid Medical Leave Act (PMLA) requires o employers with 50 or more individuals to provide sick leave for full or part-time status or how many hours they work. Individuals can earn one hour of sick time for every 35 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours per year.
Under the law, you can take sick time to care for yourself or a child, spouse, parent, parent of a spouse, grandparent, grandchild, or sibling. You can use your time if your workplace is closed by a public health emergency or to care for a child whose school or childcare provider has been closed.
How Can I Use Sick Pay?
To use paid medical leave, employees do need to follow their employer’s call-in procedures. Further, they may need to provide documentation that shows the use of sick leave was legitimate, such as a doctor’s note.
